Citizenship Through Parents

Derivation of citizenship is the process by which a person derives citizenship or automatically becomes a citizen through the American citizenship of one of their parents. The father or mother can be a citizen by birth or by naturalization.

It is obtained through the N-600 form that requires you to prove that you qualify for automatic citizenship.

  • Evidence of citizenship of their parents.
  • Evidence of your relationship with your parents.
  • Proof of legal custody of the applicant’s parents when the applicant was a minor.
  • If the applicant is a legal resident, please provide proof of legal residency.
